World Fantasy Con, II

My titles are never terribly interesting.

Saturday at the con continues with delightful and exciting things. After getting a bag of books with con registration, I bought more items in the dealer room, another set of items at the charity auction, and a few items at the art show.

All in all, I need UPS to get all of this home.

I have not seen any panels and went to only one reading. For the most part, I visit conversations, spent a lot of time talking to Charles Vess and Charles de Lint at the authors' mass signing on Friday, where I also met Fred Saberhagen and talked a bit with his wife. Yes, my items were all autographed and personalized, and Charles Vess even did a small freehand drawing in my copy of A Book of Ballads that he illustrated and de Lint did one of the ballads for.

All in all, way cool.

I'm currently up in the art show auction for 4/4 of John Picasio's original cover art for Gateway; an original by Cotopassi; a small piece by Keck called Chapel. I had bids in for other items, which I've let slide away. I did instant sales on two framed original works by Mael, called White Hest and Of Turin Turambar #2. Both of these works will need large wall spaces somewhere at home, as they are large studies in oil and ink of a paladin and an elven warrior. Gateway will be great as the new focal point of the guest bedroom...

At the charity auction for Charles Grant, I picked up a typed, hand-corrected manuscript for Fred Saberhagen's The Lost Book of Swords. Very cool. Good bidding for it and I had to pay a pretty penny. Also picked up a bottle of Vampire wine (ugh), but was signed by 13 authors. In addition, I got some lovely earrings for Kelly (faeries and garnets); signed copy of Ghosts in the Snow by Tamara Siler Jones; a 1932 Stoneham's King of the Jungle; went in on a grab bag of signed vintage paperbacks.

In the dealer room, I got Angelica by Sharon Shinn, who was nearby when I bought it and graciously personalized it (we chatted for a bit too), plus Michelle Welch's books and Jacqueline Carey's. Looking forward to reading all of these.

All in all, plenty of acqusitions. Now to get the UPS folks to ship all this back home...

ps. Our favorite corsair shifted into elegant evening wear today, including a black and red long duster with great collar, white ruffled shirt, and black pants with rhinestone belt. Looked better than I give it explanation. Terribly 19th century of him.
